My Day with Celebrity Hairstylist Kiyah Wright!

This week I had the opportunity to spend time with Celebrity Hairstylist Kiyah Wright and 17 stylists at the Aveda Institute in Atlanta, GA.  Kiyah hosted "Perfect Your Weaves and Increase Your Profits".

I was really excited about meeting Kiyah. I first learned about Kiyah when she was a guest on Beauty Talk with Janice and Denise Tunnell. I was immediately drawn in to her as she shared advice to stylists who had a desire to assist Celebrity Hairstylists.  Listen to that interview here. My second introduction to Kiyah was her "There is no plan B" youtube video. She shared such a powerful message on finding your passion and being determined not to give up. Check it out here.

If you're a hairstylist and weaving is a service that you offer, this workshop is for YOU! Kiyah's approach is full of energy, inspiration and no-nonsense! As a makeup artist, I was very encouraged to continue on my pursuit of leaning simply because of the energy in the room.  Kiyah worked with every student as they applied step-by-step braiding and weaving techniques the way Kiyah does it. "The Wright Way"

The stylists received a weaving kit that contained Muze Hair and tools to complete a look on their models.  Find out more about the weaving kit here.

Kiyah not only advised her students on perfecting their weaving technique, she told them how to keep their clients happy and coming back. She gave them tips on properly using their tools and getting in the habit of not having excess that goes to waste.

Stylists learned Kiya's "Wright Way" tips:
The Wright Way Weaving Technique
How to get 2-3 sew-ins out of the Hair Net
Secure and Conceal closure braids
Lay braids to reduce thickness
Lay the weft
Secure ends

Here are a few tips that I shared via twitter. Follow the feed under #WeavingSeminar or #KiyahWrightLive for more.

Tip: cut the net down the center and cross each piece so the net lays flay across the top.

advises sewing the knot over the braid to leave it seamless.

prefers a curved needle over the straight needle for sewing.

I also encourage you to check out Kiyah TV, connect with her on Twitter and Facebook!
