Just in case you were under a rock and missed all my exciting social media updates from this weekend, I had the pleasure of working with Natural Hair Queen, Taliah Waajid at her 16th Annual World Natural Hair, Health and Beauty Show in Atlanta!

This was my 2nd year being on the team and I was excited! We did a live taping that aired both days of the show.  I'm not sure if you ever get comfortable in front of the camera, but let my producer, Ms. Erica tell it... I did a pretty good job! Shout out to the ENTIRE Social Circle camera crew and production team for a fun time.

RECAP: World Natural Hair Next Top Model Crowing Affair

On Saturday, April 28th I had the pleasure of attending the 2013 Crowing of the World's Next Top Natural Hair Model which is held annually during the World Natural Hair Show. This elegant, black-tie event presented by Taliah Waajid made it to my list of nights to remember.  It was simply marvelous from beginning to end!  If you attend the World Natural Hair Show next year, you want to be apart of this event. 


The evening opened with a nice cocktail hour and live music.  The lovely Kimberly Elise and Comedian Bone Hampton served as our hosts for the evening and they did a fantastic job of keeping up great energy and celebrated natural beauty the entire night.


The show opened with a dance and model presentation with beautiful models wearing natural hairstyles created by some of Taliah's top stylists.  The beautiful, international vocalist and model, Folami blessed us with her new Natural Hair Anthem, "Running From the Rain". 


This year's top four finalists were Tiffany Bowden, Tazamisha Maston, Jessica Williams and TeAnna Williams. These four beautiful ladies competed for the title of 2013 World's Next Top Hair model and were judged based on their introduction, talent, question/answer presentation and gowns. 


Each finalist had the opportunity to share who they were and what it meant to carry the title of the 2013 World's Next Top Hair Model.  All of the ladies did a fantastic job.  I will go on record saying that the Crowing Affair event presented an atmosphere that empowered its guests.

RECAP: WORLD NATURAL HAIR PARTY AFFAIR - Chrisette Michele Interview

Exactly five years ago, Chrisette Michele came into our lives with one of the most authentic sounds and soul-stirring voices that had been missing from R&B.  I remember listening to I Am and wondering where she had been. From the masses of NYC, she appeared giving us a true sound, full of life.

As time continued, we were blessed with Epiphany and Let Freedom Reign.  Listening, you feel the authenticity of real music.  I’ve been a fan from the beginning and now my admiration for Chrisette has progressed and just what I felt is no mistake.

It’s true. Chrisette Michele is real. We’ve finally been introduced to an artist who has learned to rise above conforming to the masses of what everyone else is doing.  She’s found her own epiphany and working on being “Better”.

Frances: Since being natural, how have your standards of beauty changed?

Chrisette: They haven’t. The same things are still beautiful.

Frances: What is your beauty and skincare regimen and what are your favorite products?

Chrisette: SkinCeuticals Face Wash and Serum. La Mer Moisturizing Lotion.

Frances: With “Let Freedom Reign” you gave us the message of living and making decisions through freedom within your heart and in love. What’s the next message that we’ll here from you?

Chrisette: “Let Freedom Reign” was from a broken place. Making it out of the system and embracing the culture. I wanted to stray from the box. On this next album, I aim to make the best R&B album (laughing). I’ve never said that before… The next album is “Better”. The first single hits in June and the album in the Fall. I’m now on Motown Records.

Frances: 10-15 years from now, what message will you want us to be know about Chrisette?

Chrisette: That I was telling my personal story. I don’t understand the concept of haters. There’s plenty of love to go around.
