After reading She's Pretty For A Dark Skinned Girl [Dark Girls The Movie] by Ty of Gorgeous In Grey {read/comment} I was disappointed (not surprised) with the reality of how the Black culture internalizes self racism. I am also reminded about nationalities of the Haitian, Caribbean and African descent. {recent skin lightening occurrences)
I know the title shakes you a little bit...well at least it should cause your heart to become sore. I immediately had my own personal thoughts about the documentary. What I decided to do was not determine by thoughts from a perception, but from what is real.
What is real is the self-racism that has become this never-ending cycle among US...our own. I can recall growing up and hearing girls talk about being "light-skinned". Or those who were fair complaining about wanting to be darker or more tanned like the other girls.
What does this mean?
Where did this self hated come from?
Why does it still affect women today?
I don't have the ANSWERING FACTS to these questions. What I do have is a level of compassion for the women who feel that they are not beautiful because of the complexion of their skin. I also have a responsibility to remind you that you were created and born to be unique.
I want YOU to know that you are beautiful no matter what shade of brown you are!

I love my skin because I accepted who I am and this is how God made me. Its so important to let the little brown girls of the world today know that they are enough no matter what mainstream media says. Our own community has made this racial divide bigger. So the next time you see a little brown girl, go out your way to let her know that she is beautiful and always, always tell her the importance of education. This is what I do to let that beautiful brown girl know that I See her and to let her light shine brighter than the son.I li
I love my skin because God fearfully and wonderfully made me! I can recall days in my youth when people would say to me I was pretty for a dark skinned girl or they would pull my hair to make sure it wasn't a weave or wig. I can also recall at times wanting to be lighter and wanting to be darker to fit in with what "socieity" said was beautiful! Now I love the skin I'm in and I proudly present that especially to my daughters who are light skinned! They have to know that no matter what shade or hue, God made them that way & it's all good!
Yes ladies!!! I'm loving the energy!
I love me because if I don't then who else will? I tell my mother about all of this intra-racism within our community and how it never affected me because my mother built up my self-esttem early on. I told her I must have been a duck because anything they said rolled off me like water. She told me I was Black and Beautiful and I believed her. I never received this type of negativity from any other human beings, but my own and I have traveled the world. They were amazed by my hue and the wonderful creations I did with my hair. God doesn't make mistakes!
@Divalocity...no HE doesn't!
