For years, WOC have walked a journey of finding what works for them. Be it, in Fashion or Beauty – the options are available. Knowing where to go and WHAT to choose is where you find joy. I'm sharing this guide to help you on your journey of choosing the right FOUNDATION.
I'd like to start by saying that the brands listed are not the only companies who provide shades for WOC. These brands are MY PERSONAL FAVORITES that I have grown to appreciate as an artist.
How to select the perfect shade?
When choosing a shade, understand first that you may need more than one shade for your skin. For most WOC, we tend to have 1-2 tones represented on our complexion. For example: You may be one shade on the outer perimeter (hairline/jaw-line) and another shade on the inner (center/cheeks). Choose three shades that appear to match your complexion. Test all three, applying them to your jaw-line only. The shade that matches or fades into your natural complexion is the one for YOU. How do I apply my foundation?
Foundation can be applied in several ways. Remember, as a consumer you want to get the technique that works for YOU. My favorite applicator is a good ole’ sponge. Now, sometimes depending on the coverage needed, the sponge can be dampened. This will give you a thin application that can be applied heavier if needed. Now for the fun part… to smooth and blend the foundation, I suggest taking a brush and blending all areas where foundation has been applied. This application guarantees great results.

Thank you for this post! It helps many women of color begin their search for the perfect foundation. Ladies please understand that this is a journey. You may not find the best product for your skin type or texture on the first try. Don't give up! Continue to test products and remember to analyze how products wear on your skin throughout the day.
Great post! Thanks for sharing :)
I am definitely going to share this with the ladies I know!
Great post! I love the "coming up next"! I can't wait to read the next entries.
Yes it is hard to make foundation for WOC we have
some colors made, but have to have them tested on faces, which has been my problem, everytime I get someone to test on something comes up with the client :( and it never takes place.
